ACCEPTABLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

Technology is an essential tool used daily in core subject areas. Your student will be prompted to read the FUSD Acceptable Use Policy and electronically sign it before completing any online assignments. Violation of this policy is subject to disciplinary action.

A copy has been included in the First Day Packet for parent/guardian to read, sign, and return to school.

Cell Phone Policy: Please encourage your student(s) to leave their cell phone at home. If there is an urgent need to contact your child, please call (559) 248-7280 to reach our office. If they choose to bring it to school, we will not be responsible for lost or stolen devices. Admin and staff will not investigate the theft of a phone nor will students be permitted to attempt to track their phone on another device during school hours. Additionally, if your child chooses to use their phone during instructional time, it will be confiscated and sent to the office for parent pick-up.

Computer Policy:  Students are expected to bring their fully charged district issued computer to school daily along with their charger.

ATTENDANCE

To be successful, students need to be in class every day ready to learn.  When students are absent, please call the attendance clerk to clear your child’s absence as soon as possible at 248-3670.  Regular home visits will take place for students who are continually absent.  Students not inside their class when the late bell rings will be marked tardy. Three occurrences equate to one absence.

Students who are identified as habitually truant (6 or more absences) or chronically truant (missing 10% or more of the school days in one year) may be subject to a School Attendance Review Board(SARB) or may be sent to the District Attorney for prosecution and possible fines up to $500.  Students may have the opportunity to improve their attendance by attending Saturday School.

AWARDS

Academic and athletic awards will take place throughout the year. Please check school website for additional information.  https://tioga.fresnounified.org/quarter-awards/

Rules and regulations are established to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning. Students who fail to comply with these rules and regulations will be counseled, reprimanded, suspended, or expelled, and/or arrested as the laws are applied.

BUS PROCEDURES

Riding the bus is a privilege not a right.  All busses drop students off in the front of the school starting at 7:30 AM.  Busses pick up students from school at the end of the day at the back gate behind the gym.  A late bus for students in athletics or the after- school program picks up students at 5:00 PM in the front of the school.  Students must follow all Fresno Unified rule 5000 AR 5131.1 regarding bus expectations.

              Potential Consequences

  • Upon a second offense of misconduct, the rider may be denied transportation services for a period not to exceed two weeks as determined by the bus drive in conjunction with Transportation.
  • Upon a third offense of misconduct, the rider may be denied transportation services for the remainder of the school year as determined by the bus driver in conjunction with Transportation.
  • In the case of a severe violation, the student may be suspended from the bus for the remainder of the year as determined by the bus driver in conjunction with Transportation.

CLOSED CAMPUS

Tioga Middle School is a closed campus.  Students are not allowed to leave campus without parent permission until the school day is over.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

Students found in possession of drugs, or under the influence, will be subject to disciplinary action and/or drug intervention support. FUSD contracts with outside agencies providing drug sniffing canines.  These agencies conduct random visits to Tioga and classrooms.  If your child’s belongings are alerted by canines, they will be subjected to a search by the handlers.  Parents will be notified the day of the investigation and the results. Additionally, Tioga school officials may search individual students and their property when there is a reasonable suspicion that the search will uncover evidence that the student is violating the law, the rules of the district, or school.

EXPANDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP)

The Tioga Expanded Learning Program (ELP) provides three main components for our students.  The first component is academic.  All students enrolled in our ELP attend an instructional enrichment program for 45 minutes.  The second component consists of clubs and activities designed around student engagement.  The final component is a Super Snack. All students are welcome to attend our ELP provided they maintain good behavior.  Please contact our ELP Coordinator, Alfredo Gutierrez, for more information at 248-7280 or email at Alfredo.gutierrez@fresnounified.org
